My Classroom Website

My name is Elizabeth Martin, and I serve as the Instructional Coach at South Central High School in Winterville, NC.

I have gone to school or lived in Pitt County since 1981, and I have seen the amazing growth that has taken place here.  Before becoming a public school teacher at the age of 48, I worked for a family-owned business with diverse enterprises.  During my last years with that company, I represented our company at various trade shows throughout the country, developed and coordinated customer service for the manufacturing division, and helped to oversee the importing of components used in our manufacturing process.

In February, 2004 I was hired to teach World History and Civics & Economics at D.H. Conley High School, and in August of that year I began developing the Psychology program at South Central High School.  Psychology is an fun subject to be able to teach at the high school level.  I also taught Civics and Economics, another subject that is fun to teach, especially in an election year!!

In August, 2009 Pitt County Schools put Instructional Coaches into each school in the county.  This first year has been about learning our roles, participating in lots of staff development regarding technology and instructional strategies, and fleshing out a new buzz phrase in education, "local school embedded staff development."  I consider it a privilege to be able to work in this capacity with our faculty at South Central.
